Whitehaven Center Vaccination Site to close March 26
By Diana Fedinec
Southwest’s drive-thru Whitehaven Vaccination site at 1234 Finley Road will close after Saturday, March 26, 2022. Shelby County Health Department announced the closure due to the expanded vaccination capacity of COVID-19 public-private partners throughout Shelby County and plans to target more under-resourced communities.
Pfizer vaccinations for anyone 12 and older will be available at the Whitehaven site on these final dates and times:
- Friday, March 18, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Friday, March 25, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Whitehaven vaccination site was a success, providing nearly 43,000 vaccinations since it first opened on February 5, 2021, including more than 20,000 first doses, 18,000 second doses and nearly 4,000 booster doses. The Whitehaven vaccination site also provided vaccinations to nearly 500 minors as of March 11, 2022.
“We thank Dr. Tracy Hall, President of Southwest Tennessee Community College, and her staff for the very fruitful partnership that has allowed tens of thousands of people to be vaccinated at the mass drive-thru vaccination site on the SWTCC campus,” said Dr. Michelle Taylor, director of the Shelby County Health Department. “As demand at that site has dropped, the Health Department will now focus its efforts on smaller pop-up community events that target specific populations throughout Shelby County.”
Free COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone aged 5 or older are always available at the Shelby County Health Department’s Immunization Clinic at 814 Jefferson Avenue, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on a walk-in basis, no appointment needed.
Free COVID-19 vaccinations are also widely available at pharmacies and other vaccination sites all over Shelby County. Go to https://www.vaccines.gov/ and enter your zip code to find vaccination sites near you.
All pop-up community vaccination sites will be posted at the Health Department’s COVID-19 website: Shelby.community. Those without internet access are encouraged to call the Health Department’s COVID-19 hotline: 901-222-SHOT (7468) for information about vaccination sites and vaccinations for homebound individuals.
