Southwest Women’s Soccer to Take on Columbia State in TCCAA Tourney

The Southwest women’s soccer team (8-6 overall, 4-2 in TCCAA), enters the 2019 conference tournament for the second straight season as the number two seed and will play the host school and third seed Columbia State (8-6, 3-3) at 4 p.m. on October 30 at Ridley Park in Columbia, Tennessee.

“We’re playing our best soccer of the season right now,” said Southwest head coach Brandon VanCleave. “If we stay focused we should be successful and come out with the results that we want. This is one of the most talented teams we’ve had in the past three seasons and will go as far as the girls want to go.”

Motlow State (13-3, 5-1) enters the tournament as the top seed after finishing the regular season champions and will play number four seed Dyersburg State (4-10-2, 0-6) in the first semifinal match at 2 p.m. The two semifinal winners will meet in the championship at 4 p.m. on October 31. The champion advances to the NJCAA Central District Tournament on November 7-8.

The Lady Saluqis are led in scoring by freshman Macarena Gonzalez (5 goals, 9 assists), freshman Emma Duke (5 goals, 3 assists), sophomore Juliane Alcantara (6 goals), freshman Kallen Gresko (3 goals, 5 assists) and sophomore Anna Trotter (5 goals, 1 assist).  The starting goalkeeper is freshman Sarah Henson, who ranks second in the TCCAA with a 1.00 goals against average and a .844 save percentage.
