Southwest to host Horns & Voices concert celebrating Memphis’ musical heritage March 8(Memphis, TN) – Celebrating the rich tradition and heritage of Memphis music, Southwest Tennessee Community College will host Horns & Voices at 6:00 p.m. March 8, 2023 at Southwest’s Macon Cove Campus Farris Auditorium, 5983 Macon Cove Campus in Memphis, Tenn.
 
 “Horns & Voices” will spotlight the richness of the Memphis sound through musical entertainment that features Memphis musicians and those from the surrounding area,” said Professor of Fine Arts Music Coordinator Dr. Charles Pender. The concert is provided by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Open Educational Resources (OER) Grant that encourages students to explore their musicality through course offerings and immersive performance-based experiences. 
 
Be prepared to sample of variety of musical genres with local musicians and singers that include: Vocalists Valetta Brinson and LaShawn Pender, guitarist David Collins, trombonist Andrew Earle, trumpeter Johnnie Yancey, tenor saxophonist Charles Pender Jr., keyboardist Charles Pender Sr., alto saxophonist Gary Buss, acoustic and electric bass player Kent Suggs and percussionist Reginald Taber.
 
The event is open to the public.
