Whitehaven vaccination site closed April 3 for Easter holiday
By Diana Fedinec
The City of Memphis will close all COVID-19 public vaccination sites and pop ups, April 2-5, with the exception of Southwest’s Whitehaven Vaccination Site that will remain open Friday, April 2.
The closing coincides with the Easter holiday and spring break for area schools. Sites were also closed on March 27 due to severe weather.
To reschedule or sign up for a vaccination appointment, visit the city of Memphis website at: https://www.memphistn.gov/ or call the vaccination hotline at (901) 222-SHOT (7468). Individuals who are homebound can schedule a shot visit at their home by calling the same number or emailing covid19@memphistn.gov.
For the first time, beginning March 26, 2021, adults 16 years of age and older will be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. Health officials are encouraging residents to not delay in getting vaccinated due to the rise in the highly contagious U.K. Variant. They expect the variant will account for 50% of cases in Shelby County by April 15.
To counter the gap in vaccinations in the local Hispanic population, the city will be adding more Spanish speaking operators to its (901) 222-SHOT line and an online bilingual appointment site. Reporting a person’s citizenship status is not required for testing or getting a vaccination.
Face masks are still required in public spaces with the exception of a medical condition (see Mask Director No. 5) and the mandate of six feet of social distancing continues with a few changes for eating establishments and bars (see Health Directive No. 19).
For information about the Coronavirus, visit the Shelby County Health Department website at Shelby.Community.
All Southwest students, employees and visitors who test positive for COVID-19 are encouraged to self-report online on the coronavirus section of the Southwest website. The form only takes a few minutes to complete and all information will be kept strictly confidential.
