Southwest, Memphis Police Department and Walgreens to offer free vaccinations Nov. 21

While the United States struggles to slow the spread of the COVID-19, the Influenza (flu) season draws closer. Co-infections of Influenza and COVID-19 have already begun in the United States and health experts warn that there is nothing stopping a person from catching both viruses at once if preventative measures are not taken.
On Saturday, Nov. 21, at 11:00 a.m., the Memphis Police Department at Raines Station is partnering with Walgreens Pharmacy and Southwest’s Whitehaven Center to host "Drive Away the FLU"! The free event is open to the public and essential workers and will provide free vaccinations for Influenza, Shingles, Measles, Mumps and Rubella. Free masks and hand sanitizers also will be distributed until supplies run out. All services will be provided to participants while they remain in the comfort of their own vehicles.
To date, there has been one million new COVID-19 infections in the past nine days. This brings the cumulative total to over 11 million cases as of Sunday evening. Infection rates are trending up in every state as we head into the holiday season.
Though there is no vaccine nor cure available for COVID-19 yet, there are things that everyone can do to slow the spread of infections. Washing your hands frequently, wearing a mask, social distancing from others, staying home whenever possible, and getting a flu shot all helps to protect yourself and your community from illness this year.
