Southwest closes areas in Nursing Building on Union Avenue Campus; Reopens Oct. 18, 2021

By Daphne Thomas

Southwest Tennessee Community College has closed Rooms 206 and 307 and a stairwell in the Nathan L. Essex Nursing, Natural Sciences and Biotechnology Building on the Union Avenue Campus for sanitation following a reported case of COVID-19. The locations are scheduled to reopen for public use Monday, Oct. 18. The areas were identified as visited by an individual who submitted a report of a positive COVID-19 test.  Students or employees who have scheduled classes or activities in these areas should contact their instructor or supervisor for instructions.

The Shelby County Health Department has recommended only closing the areas identified as visited by individuals who self-reported. Other areas of the building will remain open for operations while the College performs sanitation in the affected area in accordance with Back to Campus Plan guidelines and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention standards.

Southwest is performing contact tracing and notifying individuals who may have been in contact with the individual who tested positive.

All Southwest students, employees and visitors who TEST POSITIVE for COVID-19 are encouraged to self-report online on the coronavirus section of the Southwest website. The form only takes a few minutes to complete and all information will be kept strictly confidential.

Please review the College's infectious disease policy and stay tuned for updates via email and on the College’s coronavirus website at www.southwest.tn.edu/coronavirus.
