Saluqi Men Get Impressive Win Over Chattanooga State to Move to Quarterfinals
After riding a wave of eight wins out of ten in January to mid February, the Saluqi Men's Team only went .500 in its last four to end the season. As a result it was hard to tell just how strong the Saluqis would show in this year's TCCAA Region VII tournament.
It was prime time and the moment of truth for the Saluqis and they responded with a convincing 91-77 win over the same Chattanooga State team they had beaten in the season's conclusion on Feb 25, and by almost the same score.
Southwest had an impressive night shooting thirty-two of fifty-nine attempts for an overall of 54% with an impressive eight of sixteen for a great 50% three-point shooting percentage on the game.
Toriano Stokes rose up and showed his very best in leading the Saluqis scoring with twenty-two points and a team leading nine rebounds. Greg Murphy also impressed with nineteen points and seven rebounds. Other top scorers were Julian Doughtry with sixteen, Brandon Key with ten, and Jahnathan Maxwell had 9 points with six rebounds. Traevis Graham and Maleek Taylor led the scoring for Chattanooga State with fourteen points a piece.
The Saluqis move on to the seminfinals March 9 against host Walters State at 7 p.m. (CST).
