The national movement known as Giving Tuesday is Nov. 28 and Southwest Early College High School (SECHS) students want to thank Southwest Tennessee Community College and the community for their support in its inaugural year by giving back with a special after-school cleanup of the greenhouse on the Union Avenue campus. Students will gather at 3:30 p.m. to give the dormant greenhouse a space lift they hope will transform it into a community garden brimming with fresh vegetables for the campus and broader community in the near future.
Our students are very charitable. They are participating in this service project as
a way to demonstrate their gratitude during this holiday season,
SECHS CEO Ashley Smith said. They regularly give back to their city by participating in community 5Ks or volunteering
with local non-profits. They recognize the value of their opportunity to graduate
from high school with an associate degree and want to show their appreciation by giving
back to their school and our college partner.
SECHS also has a Giving Tuesday campaign to raise $25,000 by November 28th, which covers about 10 percent of the high school's estimated cost of tuition and transportation this year.
About SECHS: Established in 2016, SECHS is a charter school that strives to serve students who are committed to the challenge of taking a mixture of high school and college classes. Upon completion, students can earn both a high school diploma and a college degree and two years of transferable college credit. Degree tracks are offered to students interested in business, information technology and allied health careers. The inaugural class of ninth graders began in the Fall of 2017 with over 100 students enrolled.
