Woodard named TCCAA player of the week

Sophomore Nick Woodard was named the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 5-11. Woodard, a 6'7" wing/forward from Oglethorpe, Georgia, scored 27 points on 9 of 13 shooting, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out four assists in the Saluqis' 86-83 overtime loss to Georgia Highlands on Nov. 10. Through the first nine games of the season, Woodard is averaging 21.4 points, and 7.8 rebounds per game, ranking third in the conference in both categories. In addition, he ranks fourth in free throw percentage at 82.4 percent.
Lady Saluqis' basketball team off to a 4-2 start!
The Southwest women's basketball team has won four of the first six games to open the 2023-2024 season including a 82-45 win over Volunteer State Community College on Nov. 15 to open conference play.
The Lady Saluqis feature a balanced scoring attack this season with seven players averaging at least seven points per game. The lone double-figure scorer is freshman forward Deziya McClendon (Macon County, GA), who is averaging 11.3 points per game and is the top rebounder in the conference with a 12.2 average. Sophomore guard CorTayza Flowers (Covington, TN), one of only two returning players, is next in scoring with a 9.8 average while the other returnee, and sophomore guard JaNia Wright (Memphis, TN/Melrose High School), is third with 8.8 points per game.
