Virtual Spring Fling brings students together while apart
One by one Southwest students showed up, and the chatter began to grow with comments such as “love this”, “cool”, and “this is my favorite song”, during the first-ever Virtual Spring Fling hosted by the office of Student Development on April 16, 2020.
Due to COVID-19 and Southwest’s temporary closure of buildings, the traditional on-campus event was moved to an online format on Student Development’s Instagram page.
The live event featured DJ LNB, who engaged his audience with special song requests and shout-out congratulations to the Class of 2020. He also recognized students’ high schools, which turned into a fun way of making local connections. More than sixty viewers had a good time dancing at the event from the safety and comfort of their homes. Many responded with emoticons of applause and thumbs up.
During the event, staff chose participants for a random prize drawing of two $50 checks. The lucky winners were Geritta Johnson and Walter Valentine.
The student development office would like to thank the College’s faculty and staff for their support in organizing and promoting the event, and the many students who attended the event. Students interested in future events and activities should check their email and follow Instagram at studentdevelopment_swtcc.
