Southwest’s TRIO graduates are “Upward Bound” for college
Congratulations to the Class of 2020 graduating high school seniors who participated in Southwest’s TRIO program through the U.S. Department of Education Upward Bound program. We salute your determination to stay the course and rise above your circumstances to complete your education and progress toward higher education.
To the students who have excelled in their academic leadership to become a salutatorian or valedictorian of their respective schools, we applaud your accomplishment and recognize your distinction through a photographic honorable mention.
“These young students, who are now first-generation college students, have set a new standard for their families to achieve what they once thought was unattainable – a college degree,” said Marie Thomas, officer supervisor. “We wish them continued success in every future endeavor!”
Southwest’s Upward Bound educational program provides disadvantaged students from five Memphis high schools with comprehensive educational services designed to enhance their learning, heighten their self-confidence and propel them to obtain a college degree. The Memphis area high schools are Douglass, Hamilton, Manassas, Melrose, Trezevant and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Preparatory Academy.
