Patrol Division
The Patrol Division is the largest staff within the Police Services/Public Safety department. They provide the highest level of security and public safety assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Whether our officers patrol campuses or the surrounding areas in vehicles, on foot or bicycles, they perform a wide variety of services. These services include, but are not limited to, responding to calls for service, writing reports, conducting preliminary investigations, checking the security of college property, and providing traffic enforcement and crowd control during special events.
The Patrol Division also employs part-time officers whose full-time jobs are with other municipal agencies. These part-time officers perform the same duties as Southwest officers. All officers are Peace Officer Standard Training (POST) certified in Tennessee as fully sworn and commissioned. Southwest officers enforce college rules as well as state and local laws. Southwest Police Services/Public Safety works closely with the Memphis Police Department and other local, state, and federal agencies.
