EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: Director of Student Development Phoenix Worthy
Congratulations to Director of Student Development Phoenix Worthy who is the Employee of the Month for May!
Worthy is responsible for providing diverse programming that aids in student development. He coordinates a variety of activities and programs throughout the year that impact a student’s individual growth and academic success.
Worthy was recognized for his loyalty to the College, his passion and commitment to the development of students as emerging leaders, and his creativity and drive to keep students actively engaged and interacting with one another as a team. He was specifically acknowledged for his coordination of the Student Leadership Institute, Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature, and Intramural Sports Program, among other noteworthy activities and events.
Fellow staff said Worthy encompasses the "We are Southwest" attitude and is always willing to help anyone, even someone not within his purview.
“I am speechless and floored to receive this award,” Worthy said. “I’m very grateful, but not just for me, for our entire team. I count myself lucky to be able to serve as a role model for our students and to have the creative freedom to be a game changer.” Worthy said winning this award means he is making a difference in the lives of the students he supports.
Each nominee is reviewed by a committee representing the Professional Administrative Staff Organization (PASO) and Support Staff Organization (SSO), in conjunction with the Department of Human Resources. Award winners receive free breakfast or lunch for a week from The Taste at Southwest, a reserved parking space of choice on his/her main campus for an entire calendar month (parking restrictions may apply) and are featured in the Southwest Scoop.
