STUDENT NEWS: Southwest launches National Society of Leadership and Success chapter

Southwest Tennessee Community College estimates more than 3,000 Southwest students who are freshman, adult learners, international students, veterans, men of color, single mothers and/or athletes and maintain a 2.75 GPA or higher are eligible for membership in the newly formed chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success. The chapter was established this past July to provide Southwest students an additional opportunity to develop the leadership, communication and team building skills needed to advance their academic and future professional careers. Students who complete the program will be nationally recognized and receive honorable distinction as a top performing leader on campus and among their peers.

Southwest Student Development Director Phoenix Worthy is elated about the new organization. “The National Society of Leadership and Success is a perfect fit for Southwest students, especially as we embrace the new norm of educating our students virtually,” Worthy said.  “We currently have more than 200 students who have joined the NSLS, so far. This response truly reflects the ambition and character of our students as they demonstrate a willingness to embrace the challenge of student leadership on a national scale,” Worthy added.  

NSLS is the nation’s largest collegiate leadership honor program and the only one of its kind to have earned accreditation for its programming. Unlike other traditional honor societies, NSLS follows a step-by-step leadership development program to induct students. The student leadership development organization also offers scholarships and a signature credit pathway where students will be awarded a one-hour course credit that can be transferred to other educational institutions or career organizations upon successful completion of coursework and assessment.
