HONORS ACADEMY ALUMNI: Where are They Now?
Welcome to the inaugural installment of the Honors Academy Alumni: Where are They Now? Each Scoop, Southwest’s Honors Program will spotlight their graduates and “where they are now” along their life’s journey. All honors alumni are invited to contribute to this special column featuring you!
The first honoree is Sophia Hahn, a spring 2018 graduate of Southwest.
Hahn is currently a Peer Power Success Coach at Melrose High School, while she completes her bachelor's degree in world languages from the University of Memphis. She aspires to become a teacher, because "Teaching is my passion," she says, and it shows. Although she graduated from Southwest, Hahn still allows time in her busy schedule to tutor multiple students at Southwest. Her goal is to enter the MAT program at UofM and teach English, German and ESL. She reflects fondly on her time with the Honors Academy, where she served as president, saying that the friendships she found there, and the strong bonds she enjoyed with faculty and students, made Honors much like an extended family. "[Honors] gave me the confidence to push myself to my greatest potential," Hahn says. "It was a family full of endless support."

Erika Konig is currently an honors student and encourages students to check into the honors program. She is a proud Tennessee Reconnect student who, as shy says, gathered the courage to return to college after spending ten years working in the hospitality industry. Konig is majoring in General Studies and plans to transfer to the UofM to obtain a bachelor’s degree in communications. In her words: “I am beyond grateful for the help and guidance I have received from the program staff and my professors. They been crucial to my success as I navigate through my college journey. Shout out to everyone in the Southwest family; I will forever be grateful for you. Go Saluqis!”
