TBR names Raquel Adams SOAR finalist for Faculty Member of the Year
By Communications and Marketing Staff
Southwest’s Assistant Professor of Fine Arts, Raquel Adams, was named a finalist for Faculty Member of the Year in the 2022 Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Statewide Outstanding Award and Recognition (SOAR) awards.
Adams began her illustrious career with Southwest in 2013, less than a year after graduating with her master’s degree from Memphis College of Art, and quickly immersed herself as an integral member to the College. Adams’ accolades and accomplishments include being gallery assistant for student art shows, being an international studies instructor for the study abroad classes to Rome and Paris, a panelist speaker at the Summer Institute’s High Impact Practices and Innovation and has co-chaired the Academic Master Plan at Southwest.
Department Chair of Communications, Graphic and Fine Arts Patsy Fancher said Adams enthusiastically teaches the students in her classroom with a high level of professionalism making her a great SOAR recipient.
“I have overseen Adams for the past six years and the level of commitment she has brought to the department is phenomenal,” Fancher said. “She is dedicated to teaching, providing program leadership, student mentoring, professional responsibility and college service.”
Adams’ says she is inspired by the vision and leadership of Southwest President Dr.
Tracy D. Hall to do all she can to help the College succeed.
“I feel so very lucky to have a job that I am so passionate about and I feel honored
to receive recognition for something that brings me so much fulfillment,” Adams said.
“I had never received any recognition or awards in my career before this point. I
truly believe that this is what I'm meant to do and I'm so thankful to Southwest for
giving me this opportunity.”
