Jennifer Townes named finalist for TBR’s Staff Member of the Year Award
By Chris Caldwell
Congratulations to Assistant Vice President of Professional Development and Employee Engagement Dr. Jennifer Townes on her recognition as a Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) 2022 Statewide Outstanding Achievement and Recognition (SOAR) finalist for Staff Member of the Year.
“To be nominated by Southwest, and then win the regional competition is so surprising to me,” Townes said. “There are so many other employees who go above and beyond. I’m incredibly honored to be recognized by my colleagues. I feel appreciated and even more inspired to continue the important work we are accomplishing at the College.”
Since joining Southwest in 2013, Townes work has been unstoppable. She has forged several initiatives for faculty and staff to hone their professional development skills and assists faculty in creating modern and effective strategies to garner student success in the classroom.
Townes talents have expanded her role at the College. She is currently developing a new model of customer service for the College and providing orientation training for new employees. She also serves on numerous committees including the College’s Student Success Council, Budget and Planning Council and Reimagine Southwest Committee.
“I am grateful to be a part of a College that sincerely recognizes the potential in everyone,” Townes said. “When our employees and students are successful, our communities thrive.”
Director of Equity and Compliance Tameka Perry describes Townes as the leader Southwest needs and deserves. “With a sparkling personality and inviting demeanor, Dr. Townes exemplifies excellence professionally, socially and personally,” Perry said. “Well-spoken and well-versed in many things, she is a jewel at Southwest. It is an honor for me to have nominated Dr. Townes for this award.”
