Southwest physical therapist assistant student Eboni Benson finds purpose in helping others

Southwest physical therapist assistant student Eboni Benson
Eboni Benson’s heart has always been in the right place with wanting to help people. That passion for helping people brought Benson to Southwest to study physical therapy. In Spring 2023, she earned her A.A.S. in physical therapy assistant. She says she is ready to share her skills, knowledge and compassionate spirit and is proud to be a part of an industry that supports the health and well-being of others.
“I chose the physical therapy assistant program because growing up, I always had a caring and nurturing nature,” Benson said. “This career is a calling for me – it’s about service to others. It also allows me to provide a better life for my children.”
Benson said she is thankful to Southwest for helping defray the cost of her college through the Higher Education Emergency Relief (HEERF), which helped pay for her classes. She also credits Southwest leadership, specifically Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program Coordinator Jennifer Stevens.
“Mrs. Jennifer has a heart of gold. I could not and would not have made it through the program without her encouraging words, her knowledge of the program, and her wanting to see me and the others in the program succeed,” she said. “I love all my teachers because they care about you as an individual.”
Benson plans to complete her board exams through the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education and work as a PTA for a few years. Her ultimate goal is to open her physical therapy clinic in Memphis.
